This standard gives guidance on writing the technical specification<\/b> for the procurement of<\/i> low voltage (LV) and medium voltage (MV) power cables for use in electricity generating stations (power stations). This Guide for procurement is not applicable to equipment<\/b> for use in the nuclear reactor plant area of nuclear power stations. Other possible applications of such equipment<\/b> have not been considered in the preparation of this Guide.<\/i><\/p>\n
This Guide covers power cables only for voltages up to and including Um<\/sub> = 41,5 kV. This Guide does not cover cables for public distribution systems, control and instrumentation systems or communications systems.<\/p>\n For guidance on the technical specification<\/b> of cables, including their installation and termination, refer to EN 45510-2-6<\/p>\n The equipment<\/b> covered by this Guide is defined by its function rather than design type. Therefore, the guidance to the specification<\/b> is stated in performance terms rather than being specified by a detailed description of the equipment<\/b> to be supplied.<\/i><\/p>\n This Guide indicates to potential purchasers<\/b> how their specification<\/b> should be prepared so that:<\/i><\/p>\n the equipment<\/b> type and capacity interfaces correctly with other elements of the systems;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n predicted performance is achieved;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n ancillary equipment<\/b> is properly sized;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n reliability, availability<\/b> and safety requirements are achieved;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n proper consideration is given to the evaluation process and the quality measures to be applied.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n This Guide does not determine the type of specification<\/b> (e.g. detailed, performance, functional) or the extent of supply for any given contract which is normally decided on the basis of the purchaser\u2019s<\/b> project strategy.
