The scope of<br \/>\nthis standard includes the following topics:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>\n<div>Descriptions of the specified<br \/>\nfunctional capabilities that provide wireless telecommunications<br \/>\nservices across the A1 interface as defined in the TR45 Network<br \/>\nReference Model,<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Descriptions of the division of<br \/>\nresponsibility of the functions provided between the BS and the<br \/>\nMSC, without prescribing specific implementations,<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Descriptions of the A1 interface<br \/>\nstandard that support DS-41 [7] and cdma2000<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><br \/>\nsystems,<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Descriptions of the specified<br \/>\nfunctional capabilities that provide circuit-services across the<br \/>\npacket transport based MSCe-BS (A1p) and MGW-BS (A2p) interfaces<br \/>\ndefined in the Network Reference Model shown in [25]. It should be<br \/>\nnoted that, for given call, the transcoder may or may not be in the<br \/>\nMGW or BS. This protocol definition is not limited by the location<br \/>\nor existence of the transcoder in the bearer path,<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div>Descriptions of the division of<br \/>\nresponsibility of the functions provided between th1 e 2 BS and the<br \/>\nMSCe and MGW without prescribing specific<br \/>\nimplementations.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>cdma2000<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is the trademark for the technical<br \/>\nnomenclature for certain specifications and standards of the<br \/>\nOrganizational Partners (OPs) of 3GPP2. Geographically (and as of<br \/>\nthe date of publication), cdma2000<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is a registered<br \/>\ntrademark of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA-USA)<br \/>\nin the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this document is to provide a standard for<br \/>\ninterfacing a MSC with one or more Base Stations (BSs). In<br \/>\naddition, this standard provides for interfacing a Mobile Switching<br \/>\nCenter Emulation (MSCe) and a MGW to one or more BSs. This document<br \/>\ndefines the functional capabilities, including services and<br \/>\nfeatures, of the specified interface.
