This<br \/>\nmakes it difficult, at best, for system operators to set a<br \/>\nrealistic set of measurement expectations for installers and<br \/>\ntechnicians to use for checking completed installations<\/p>\n<p>Various calculators and nomographs have been developed over the<br \/>\nyears to try to estimate what the expected system VSWR ought to be<br \/>\nfor the total RF path, but, at best they treat the combination of<br \/>\nthe individual component VSWR vectors as if they combine in a<br \/>\nrandom fashion. This might be true most of the time, but there<br \/>\nmight be those instances where random vector combinations do not<br \/>\nhappen.<\/p>\n<p>This Bulletin presents some of the nomographs and calculators<br \/>\nthat have been employed over the years and introduces an improved<br \/>\ncalculator that shows both typical and worst case vector summation.<br \/>\nIt also presents some theoretical reference material detailing how<br \/>\nthe VSWRs of specific components might combine.
