Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n

1.1<\/span> This specification covers the requirements for compressible-washer-type direct tension indicators, (DTIs) capable of indicating the achievement of a specified minimum bolt tension in a structural bolt.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2<\/span> Eight types of DTIs in nominal diameter sizes 1<\/sup>\/2<\/sub> through 11<\/sup>\/2<\/sub> in. as well as M16 through M36 are covered:<\/p>\n

1.2.1<\/span> Type 325-1\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A325<\/span> Type 1 bolts or F\u2009 or F1852<\/span> assemblies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.2.2<\/span> Type 325\u20133\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A325<\/span> Type 3 bolts or F1852<\/span> Type 3 assemblies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.3<\/span> Type 490\u20131\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A490<\/span> Type 1 bolts or F2280<\/span> assemblies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.4<\/span> Type 490\u20133\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A490<\/span> Type 3 F2280<\/span> Type 3 assemblies.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.5<\/span> Type 8.8-1\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A325M<\/span> Type 1 bolts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.6<\/span> Type 8.8-3\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A325M<\/span> Type 3 bolts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.7<\/span> Type 10.9-1\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A490M<\/span> Type 1 bolts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.2.8<\/span> Type 10.9-3\u2014<\/span>DTIs for use with Specification A490M<\/span> Type 3 bolts.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.3<\/span> DTIs are intended for installation under either a bolt head or a hardened washer. (See Research Council on Structural Connections: Specification for Structural Joints Using High\u2013Strength Bolts.)<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.4<\/span> This specification provides for furnishing Type 3 DTIs to a Chemical Composition Requirement or a Corrosion Resistance Index (CRI) at the manufacturer\u2019s discretion.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

1.5<\/span> Terms used in this specification are defined in Terminology F1789<\/span> unless otherwise specified.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
